The General Foundation of the University of Salamanca promotes a multidisciplinary research on ageing with a budget of € 600,000
The International Centre on Ageing (CENIE) comes up with the objective of responding to one of the social phenomena that is changing the world we live in: ageing.
Its main mission is to respond effectively to the demands of a society facing a global ageing process, derived from the progressive increase in life expectancy and the reduction of birth rates. Both factors are causing a profound change in the composition and behavior of the population pyramids, with the remarkable social and economic consequences that this entails.
CENIE is promoted by the General Foundation of the University of Salamanca, together with the General Foundation of the National Research Council, Portugal Directorate-General of Health and the University of the Algarve, under the Interreg VA Cooperation Programme, Spain -Portugal (POCTEP), 2014-2020, of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and its wish is to lay the foundations for building a common vision between Spain and Portugal in the face of this new social reality.
The General Foundation of the University of Salamanca, based on its commitment as Principal Recipient, wants to promote the development of CENIE and the achievement of its objectives; to this end, it opens a process of competitive competition for the selection of multidisciplinary investigations on ageing, which will contribute to the development and implementation of an excellent research network whose results may be of interest to Spain and Portugal. The economic budget allocated to these research projects will be 600,000€ .
The main priorities of these research projects are:
1. Relations between ageing population and socio-economic development.
2. Current and alternative methods to preserve the material safety of the elderly.
3. The change in family structure, intergenerational transfer systems and new models of family and institutional functioning.
4. Determinants of healthy ageing.
5. Basic biological mechanisms and age-related diseases.
6. Quality of life and ageing in different cultural, socio-economic and environmental situations.
