Meeting of researchers "Research and ageing: answers to give quality to life".

Introduction

Scientific research is not an easy task. It is a profession that involves long training periods, often in different places, and is very competitive. But it is an important work for society and, therefore, requires all those who want to put their intelligence in front of the constant challenges that involve asking questions about the world in which we live.

One of these challenges is the ageing of the population which constitutes a great social challenge and, therefore, a priority field and full of opportunities for research and researchers.

For this reason, the International Center on Ageing (CENIE) promoted a process of competitive competition for the selection of multidisciplinary research on ageing that will be presented at this Meeting of Researchers. It is a relevant contribution in the objective of developing and promoting a research network of excellence between Spain and Portugal.

The main priorities of these research projects are:

  1. Relations between the ageing of the population and socio-economic development.
  2. Current methods and alternatives to preserve the material security of the elderly.
  3. The change in the family structure, systems of intergenerational transfer and new models of family and institutional functioning.
  4. Determining factors of healthy ageing.
  5. Basic biological mechanisms and diseases associated with age.
  6. Quality of life and ageing in different cultural, socioeconomic and environmental situations.

Likewise, this Meeting, which has the will to become a regular appointment, tries to promote knowledge of the work being carried out, both in Spain and in Portugal, research centers, universities, companies and other entities, in matters of health or from the field of technological innovation to improve the quality of life of the elderly.

In parallel to the program of the Meeting of Researchers, there will be an exhibition of research projects that aim to improve the quality of life of the elderly.

This activity, as well as the CENIE, is promoted by the General Foundation of the University of Salamanca, together with the General Foundation of the Higher Council of Scientific Research, the General Directorate of Health of Portugal and the University of the Algarve, within the framework of the Program of Cooperation Interreg VA, Spain-Portugal, (POCTEP), 2014-2020, of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and its desire is to lay the foundations for the construction of a common vision between Spain and Portugal in the face of this new reality Social.
