With the support of the Algarve Operational Programme - CRESC ALGARVE 2020, the ABC-Algarve Biomedical Centre, a partnership between CHUA - Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve and the University of Algarve UAlg, is developing new strategies and new models for active ageing, aiming to provide high quality healthcare and wellbeing, particularly in the field of osteoarticular, cardiovascular and respiratory rehabilitation, with a distinctive focus on promoting active and healthy living.
Focusing on health tourism with intensive training programmes taking advantage of our climatic conditions for outdoor activities, this strategy is articulated with the Network of European Reference Regions for Active and Healthy Ageing, of which the Algarve is part following an application under the CENIE Project - International Centre on Ageing (financed by Interreg Spain-Portugal - Poctep / European Social Fund), led by the University of the Algarve and the CCDR-Algarve.
